Dog Days of Summer

This is Sam. Sam is one of the largest Great Danes I've ever seen. He lives in a house full of international students at Liberty and hears an assortment of languages everyday. He is one BIG dog. There were paw prints near the ceiling of the dining room from where Sam stretched out his loooong body against the wall. I just fell in love with this dog. While I was a little afraid that he would squish my bare toes, I loved petting his giant back and watching him run around the living room.

While Sam looks like an adult, he is actually still a puppy. Sam has a lot to learn and forgets how big he actually is. Several times, while I was visiting Sam, he tried to sit in my lap. I yelled, "Nooooo!" and Sam looked hurt, as though he felt I was rejecting him. Sad doggie. I wish he could sit in my lap!

I have always loved dogs. Probably because my mom wouldn't let me have one growing up. She said that they would scratch the hardwood floors. I wonder what she would have done if I had brought Sam home! Ha! So, I had an assortment of strange pets throughout my life, trying to fill the void that only a dog could fill. I raised cats, chickens, frogs, turtles, ducks, hamsters, guinea pigs, lizards...and any other random animal that I could convince my parents to let me have. Most of these pets didn't last long. They either died early (sorry Gus and Todd!- my chickens), or I had to give them away when they got too big (Abigail and Sunflower- my ducks).

We currently live in a townhouse, so getting a dog is not a possibility right now. I cried my eyes out when the landlady said she would not allow it. My friend, Lauren, is babysitting her in-law's dog, Rudy, for the summer, and I have enjoyed spending time with this spunky little dog. So, I guess for now I am content playing with someone else's dog. And I don't even have to scoop poop!
