New Paint and Pesky Groundhogs

Dallas and I have been very busy this week- painting our living room. After much, much, MUCH, time spend on Craigslist and driving around this city looking for a new house, we've decided to stay put in our current townhouse. I really do love our townhouse and think that we are getting a good deal, compared to other homes I've seen. So...if we're going to stay, we've got to start making this house a HOME. We decided a little paint on the walls would really help to spruce up our living room, the most used room in our house.

I forgot to take any "before" shots....Sorry! But, this was after we had moved most of the furniture, to give you an idea of what the room looked like before.
Booooring!

I have been debating paint colors for months now, and have found that I am rather afraid of commitment when it comes to decorating. What if the color doesn't look right? What if it's too dark? What if it's too light? What if, what if, what if??? Thankfully, Dallas is much more level-headed than I am, and he tends to be my voice of reason. He said it's only paint. And you can repaint paint. So, we headed off to Wal-Mart and had them color match a much more expensive brand of paint, with their thrifty kind! We paid $7.98 a gallon and ended up using 2 gallons (after we had to return to the store for more!).
We chose the color Manhattan Mist by Behr. It's a grey-blue, and I'm hoping it will look mostly grey as it dries, but we'll see. In total, we paid $15.96 for paint, $2.50 for our brushes and rolling pan, and $1.95 for tape, for a grand total of $20.41. Great deal for a room update, don't you think?

As I mentioned earlier, I seem to have a huge fear of decorating commitment, and am having a VERY hard time deciding where to hang up my pictures and wall art. SO, you will just have to wait a few more days to see the final reveal. Hopefully it will be Monday, as I can't live with my house in a wreak for much longer, and I will be forced to make some decorating decisions. If anyone wants to offer their help, or opinions, I would be very thankful!

In other news, attack of the ground hogs is in full swing. Seriously, this little guys are SO destructive and annoying. They have eaten almost ALL of my plants, leaving me with nothing more than little stems. Yesterday, Dallas read a new way to kill them. They apparently love bubble gum, but can't digest it, so they swallow it, crawl into their holes, and die. Listen, please don't report me to PETA. You would probably do much worse if you had to experience them as often as I do. I have even called Animal Control to come get them, but they recommended trapping them, which I obviously don't own an animal trap, or shooting them, which is NOT an option. So...I opted for a pack of Juicy Fruit gum.
So, yesterday Dallas headed out to the "woods" behind our house in search of their hole.
 He found it!!
He threw several sticks of Juicy Fruit into their hole and on their paths. He said they had tons of dirt pathways leading to their hole and to various spots in the woods. I'll have to take his word for it, as I am NOT going anywhere near a groundhog, or its hole. I'll let you know later whether our little plan works! Unfortunately, they did return to my garden over night and eat one of my new plants that my mom planted for me, which was high up on a table. How do they do that? But, maybe a few more rounds of Juicy Fruit will do the trick!

The good news is, it seems that we saved our tomato plants just in time, and they are doing great! We even have one tomato that is beginning to turn red! And several other green ones that are also getting pretty big!

And, after rescuing some of my flowers from impending doom, they have made a swift comeback, and are about to be in full bloom!
You'll notice the branches in the front are short and have no flowers. Apparently, the groundhog has recently figured out how to climb up on the shelf, and help himself to my plants. Lovely. I guess it's only a matter of time until these are gone too. But for now, I'll enjoy them!

I hope you have a Fabulous Friday, and have a great weekend too! Thanks for checking in with me and my little 'ol blog! And remember...don't let the groundhogs bite!
